Mateen Cleaves And Charity Give Back To Local Families

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Families across Michigan got an early start to the holidays thanks to former Spartan basketball great Mateen Cleaves and his "One Goal One Passion" charity.

Cleaves was on hand at the Boys and Girls Club in Lansing Monday. Families received gift cards to local businessess for food and gifts for kids.

Earlier this year, Cleaves held a tailgating fundraisers for the event during a Spartan football game. His goal was to help 1,000 families across the state and he says it's all worth it to put a smile on a child's face.

"When you just get that smile, I mean, that makes not only my day, makes the world to me and that's why we do it, to be able to put smiles on people faces because the holiday times are suppose to be the good times, not stressful times. Not worrying about not being able to provide for your family. Not a kid worrying about if they are going to get a gift or not but to enjoy it," said Cleaves.

Boys and Girls Clubs in Flint and Detroit will also hold events later this week.
