Mega Millions Still Breaking Records With $636 Drawing

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - It's the second largest jackpot in both Mega Millions and lottery history and numbers will be drawn again Tuesday night.

The Mega Millions jackpot currently sits at $636 million. The jackpot has rolled 21 times with no winner since October 1. Earlier Tuesday, the jackpot sat at $586, but ticket sales have pushed lottery officials to increase it.

The cash option after taxes would be around $341 million.

The jackpot is catching up to last year's Mega Millions record of $656 million, currently making it the second largest for both Mega Millions and the lottery. Tuesday's updated jackpot has kicked out the top Powerball jackpot, leaving Powerball in third and fourth place, with $590.5 million in May and $587.5 million in November 2012.

One ticket costs $1. But even with increased jackpots, odds remain the same to win, about 1 in 259 million.

Officials say if no one matches all six numbers in Tuesday night's drawing, the jackpot will be on its way to reaching $1 billion by Christmas, the highest jackpot in history.
