Child Gets Early Christmas Present From Kuwait

OVID, Mich. (WLNS) – As 4-year-old Tori Butler pranced around her preschool classroom on Tuesday in a red, white and blue tutu complete with a star-spangled top, she had no idea Christmas was coming early, all the way from Kuwait.

Tori's father, SSgt. Melvin Butler, had been serving in Kuwait with the Michigan National Guard's 110th Airlift Wing for the last seven months. He was originally supposed to return home next week, around the time his wife is due to give birth. However, he was able to make it home early, and pulled off a surprise visit to his daughter's school.

"She has been such a trooper the whole time that he's been gone," said SSgt. Butler's wife, Brianne. "She's been awesome."

SSgt. Butler said he has eight years left with the National Guard, but is now home for good.

"It was nice to see my family. It was nice to surprise my daughter. She didn't have any idea I was coming," said SSgt. Butler. "Being home is great. I was so ready to come home."
