LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Christmas came early for some Lansing families who are officially taking a new loved one in their homes today.

A total of 18 children were officially be welcomed by Judge George Economy into their new families, a two day process beginning on Tuesday and ending Wednesday.

Judge Economy says this is his favorite assignment on the bench, and says it's not only a happy occasion, but a life-changing one as well.

"You can never underestimate what an adoption does to bring a child into a family. I have met so many people who themselves were adopted who will indicate that it was this special time of their life to know that somebody cared and would always care for them for the rest of their days," said Judge Economy, the chief probate judge in Ingham County.

This is the 27th year that Judge Economy has held the holiday adoption event.
