Teacher Fired After Report Child's Mouth Was Taped

Posted: Updated:

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Officials in Flint say an investigation is ongoing after a substitute teacher reportedly put duct tape over a student's mouth.

Superintendent Larry Watkins offered an update Wednesday at a meeting of the Flint School Board, saying that personnel issues surrounding the allegation have been dealt with. He says details of the issues can't currently be discussed publicly.

The Flint Journal reports the teacher was fired after reports surfaced that he put tape over a second-grader's mouth Dec. 3 and the principal then put tape over the teacher's mouth.

No charges have been filed. The substitute teacher filed a police report accusing the principal of assault, saying his lip was cut. Flint police Chief James Tolbert said earlier this week there wasn't sufficient evidence to seek charges against the principal.
