Man Faces Feb. Sentencing In 3 Slayings In 1972

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, Mich. (AP) - A man faces sentencing next year in Michigan after entering a plea agreement in three slayings from 1972.

The Monroe Evening News reports 69-year-old Laurence Lamont on Tuesday pleaded no contest to three counts of second-degree murder.

A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.

Lamont was charged in the deaths of three men in Michigan's Monroe County, near the Ohio border. Police say the victims were abducted in Michigan and Ohio before being killed in Michigan. The plea agreement avoids a trial, which had been expected to be complicated because of how much time passed since the killings.

Another suspect died behind bars. Sentencing is Feb. 6 for Lamont, was in prison in Ohio for decades for other crimes.
