Posted: Updated:

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. (WLNS) - Extra security is in Fowlerville High School this week after rumored threats to students in the district.

Rumors surfaced that a student was going to "shoot up the school" on December 20. Superintendent Wayne Rodell sent out letters to parents, saying the district is actively investigating the situation and has found no real threat.

"It really bothered me because of all the other shootings at schools, they just had that one in Colorado. It seems like that's getting to be a trend," said Dorothy Ravenkilde, the great grandmother of a Fowlerville student. She says because of the the treat, their mom is keeping them home.

Rodell told 6 News while he's not trying to downplay the threats, he assures they're based on rumors and that students are safe. "The perceived threat was from a conversation that occured from four years ago when the student was in eighth grade."

Police questioned one specific student at the cent of the rumors, but officials say, "there's no evidence that he's made a threat of any kind."

Rodell said that his children go to Fowlerville schools and he feels it's safe enough to send them to class Friday.
