ST JOHNS, Mich. (WLNS) - The new emergency department at the Sparrow Clinton Hospital is $10,000 closer to reality after a donation from the Capital Region Community Foundation.

Sparrow says the donation brings the total amount raised for the initial phase of the campaign to more than $1 million. Now the hospital is gearing up for it's public campaign - which hopes to raise more money for the $5.7 million project.

Sparrow says it needs to grow to meet the growing demand by the public. They say their current 2,740 square foot facility was built to handle 8,000 patients a year, but that they're seeing 14,000 a year right now.

The new department, which will be almost 10,000 square feet, will help meet the need. It's already under construction in St. Johns.

It should be ready by June.

To make a donation, you can call the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation at 989-227-3396 or e-mail
