Mid-Michigan Could Spend Christmas In The Dark

(WLNS) -- A new item just got added to Christmas wish lists across mid-Michigan: Electricity.

As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, more than 80,000 customers of Consumers Energy and the Lansing Board of Water and Light were in the dark. Thousands more DTE customers in Ingham and Livingston counties are, as well.

And according to Consumers Energy estimates, thousands of people might not have their power back on for almost a week. Estimates for parts of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties are for December 27th and December 28th.

That could make it a long holiday week for many people, as the WLNS 6 Day Forecast has temperatures below freezing through Saturday.

Here are the current estimates for the number of outages as of Sunday at 5 p.m.

Lansing Board of Water and Light: 21,000
Shiawassee County: 17,342
Ingham County: 15,347
Eaton County: 13,854
Clinton County: 12,556
Ionia County: 4,322
Livingston County (Consumers): 4,154
Jackson County: 743
