BWL Outage Numbers Down Overnight To 30,000

UPDATE: (5:21 a.m. Monday) The Lansing Board of Water and Light says outage numbers have decreased overnight to 30,000 customers without power. The number of downed power line reports has increased from 300 to more than 400.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - As the day moved on, the problem got worse. At 6 a.m. on Sunday, Lansing's Board of Water and Light said 19,000 customers were without power because of the weekend ice storm.

By 2 p.m., that number had grown to 21,000. And at 7 p.m., the number stood just shy of 35,000.  It's at 34,800, to be exact.

A spokesman says the number is growing because ice-covered trees and branches are continuing to fall, taking power lines out with them.

And there's no estimate as to when the power will go back on.

Stay tuned to 6 News and for continuing coverage of the ice storm and the aftermath.
