Generators In Short Supply Following Ice Storm

Posted: Updated:

With over 100,000 without power in Mid-Michigan following an ice storm this weekend, generators have been very hard to come by.

The Meijer in Okemos reported being out of them early Monday afternoon. Some local hardwares also have waiting lists to get a generator, some as long ast 50 plus people.

The Menards on the west side of Lansing near Grand Ledge is expecting to have about 35 generators arrive at their store by Tuesday morning. They say it's a first come first serve basis, but they're also taking orders over the phone.

ACO in Frandor has eight generators in stock, too.

Remember if you are using a generator, fire officials urge you to do it safely. "The generators are fueled by gasoline. They are fine being used outside. Do not use them in an enclosed garage or in a house. They give off deadly exaust fumes," said Steve Babcock with LFD.
