Families Brave Cold Temps After Power Outages

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – As thousands of Mid-Michigan families wait for their power to be restored after last weekend's ice storm, they're braving the cold temperatures in their homes by bundling up.

"I've just been trying to keep my boys warm. You know, covers, fully clothed,' said Vanivia Jones of Lansing. "It's just been a really trying time, but I'm trying to work through it."

Jones has been without power since early Sunday morning, and keeps her 1-year-old twins and 2-year-old son bundled in their winter coats during the day. "It's funny, but sometimes we've been taking a lap around the living room. You know, if you exercise some, it will keep you warm a little," said Jones.

Jones isn't sure when she'll have power again, but hopes it's restored in time for Christmas. "I want my kids to have a real warm, loving Christmas. Am I going to be able to cook a meal for them on Christmas? she said. "Yes, we have our family, but I'd love to give them that real warmth on Christmas."
