Power Outages Cancel Several Christmas Eve Services

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Last weekend's ice storm has turned into more than just an ice storm.

From the power outages to Carbon monoxide poisoning and home fires, the weather has not been friendly to the area.

Some churches are canceling their Christmas Eve services as a result of the power outages.

List of churches making changes:

  • Dimondale United Methodist Church - The candlelight service at 7p.m. has been changed to Grovenburg United Methodist Church at 7p.m. That's located at 1368 Grovenburg Rd, Holt
  • Harvest Community Church - 620 6th Ave., Lake Odessa - All services canceled
  • St. Martha's - 1100 W. Grand River, Okemos - The church has no power, but will hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m., participants need to bring flashlights and no bathroom facilities will be available. Christmas Day service is at 9 a.m. only.
  • St. Paul's Catholic Church - 111 N Howell St., Owosso - 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. services are still happening, but the 11 p.m. service is canceled. Christmas Day service is at 10 a.m.
  • Okemos Community Church - 4734 Okemos Rd., no Christmas Eve services
  • St. Lukes - 5589 Van Atta Rd., Haslett, holding 3 p.m. Christmas Eve service and 10 a.m. Christmas Day service, no 10 p.m. Christmas Eve service, the church does not have power
  • Pilgrim UCC - 125 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing - Having 4 p.m. Christmas Ever service geared towards families with children and a tradition service at 8 p.m.
