Great Lakes Children's Museum Official Steps Down

Posted: Updated:

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - The executive director of the Great Lakes Children's Museum is stepping down.

John Noonan has been the Traverse City museum's executive director for 11 years. He'll leave the position Jan. 17.

Board of trustees president Nick Trahair calls Noonan the "number one voice and cheerleader for the museum."

Trahair tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle that attendance at the museum has increased each year under Noonan's leadership.

Noonan is expected to stay on as a board member of the Discovery Center Great Lakes, a water-focused community resource of which the museum and several other nonprofits are members.

The museum board will begin the search for a new director Jan. 1. Museum administrator Martha Balfour will serve as interim director.
