Some Business See Customer Drop During Power Outage

Posted: Updated:

The homes of Mid-Michigand residents weren't the only ones affected by the ice storm.

Many businesses have suffered a loss for the past few days because of power outages and decrease in customers. Stores like Home Depot, Meijers and Menards had an increase generator sales, while stores like K-Mart saw a decrease in shoppers for two consecutive days.

K-Mart was the only store with power on South Cedar Street, but Manager Dean Mauel says they're sales bounced back.

"It did hurt us the initial day because a lot of people needed to take care of what they needed to do as far as looking for generators and things such as that, but towards the end of the week, a couple days later, business really picked up," said Mauel.

The manager says he expects more shoppers to come out when the weather clears up next week.
