Two Safe After Fire Destroys Home

Posted: Updated:

WEBBERVILLE, Mich. (WLNS)- An early morning fire in Webberville forced two people out of their home Friday.

It started shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday on the 5400 block of Bell Oak Road. Officials got a call that the home was engulfed in flames.

The couple had no power in their home and decided to go out of town for the holidays. When they returned, their basement was flooded. They had used kerosene heaters to dry out the area and thaw frozen pipes.

"The flames engulfed their basement and the back half of their home," said Mike Flynn, the fire chief wfor Leroy Township Fire Department.

Both the man and woman were able to get out safely. They're now staying with friends and family.

Fire officials say the house appears to be a total loss.

The Red Cross has been contacted.
