HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a Macomb County woman was badly burned after she fell into her fireplace.

The Macomb Daily, Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV report the 56-year-old woman was leaning over the gas fireplace in her Harrison Township home Thursday evening when she fell. Her son extinguished the flames with water and a rug.

Police and fire officials say the woman was in critical condition.

Officials say the woman typically smokes cigarettes near the fireplace but it wasn't clear what she was doing when she fell.
