Officials: 8 Sent To Hospital After Apartment Fire

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Officials say an apparent cooking fire accompanied by heavy smoke sent eight residents of an 11-story Muskegon apartment building to the hospital for treatment.

The Muskegon Chronicle says the fire was reported about 3 a.m. Monday on the fifth floor and all residents were released from the hospital later in the morning. The fire spread smoke throughout several floors of the building.

Muskegon Fire Department Assistant Chief Ken Chudy says a small fire was extinguished in the kitchen area of fifth-floor apartment.

Several area fire departments responded. The fire is under investigation.
