Over A Hundred People Show Up To Confront BWL At City Hall

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The Lansing City Council held a meeting Monday night to discuss the aftermath of the ice storm that hit Mid-Michigan nine days ago.

Over 40,000 Lansing Board of Water and Light customers lost power after the storm and thousands have spent more than a week without electricity.

"We're concerned about our elderly, we are concerned about our animals, we are concerned about our community," one concerned resident said.

It was the first time for customers and citizens to face Board Water and Light Commissioners and General Manager Peter Lark about their repair service and communication over last week.

"The emergency line to board water and light is a joke, we were never able to get through, not once in eight days."

"Apologizing ten days later is like saying, it's sucks to be you."

Customers filled council chambers, dozens overflowed into the hallway and even the downstairs lobby.

Meridian Township board member Milton Scales says he's heard residents near him say they've had it.

"Customers being served by Board Water and Light, they do not want your service anymore."

And some say with the lack of communication the last ten days, General Manager Peter Lark should resign, but the mayor says he won't be quick to judge.

"It would be wildly premature to suggest anything about his departure, the Board Water and Light has my support and they've admitted to their mistakes in communication," Mayor Bernero.

The mayor of Lansing and BWL are expected issue reports on their findings over the last week and how it was handled, an official date and when that will be released however has not been released.
