Spartan, Cardinal Supporters Pack Food For Needy

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Supporters of the Michigan State University and Stanford University football teams plan to sort and pack food for the needy on the eve of the Rose Bowl game.

Michigan State's communications office says the annual service project is scheduled for Tuesday at the Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles' SOVA Community Food and Resource Program in Van Nuys, Calif. The organization works to alleviate hunger and poverty in and around Los Angeles.

More than 100 students, alumni and other volunteers from Stanford and the University of Wisconsin took part in last year's project.

Michigan State's Spartans will take on Stanford on Wednesday in the Rose Bowl game in Pasadena. It will be the Spartans first Rose Bowl appearance since 1988 and fifth in school history.
