Crew Trapped On Ship Rescued

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - After more than a week the tourists and scientists trapped on a ship in the Antarctic are safe and back on land.

A helicopter from a Chinese icebreaker helped the crew off the ship, a dozen at a time.

The ship froze in place. after a winter blizzard pushed ice up against it on Christmas Eve.

Earlier attempts to free the men and women failed because of bad weather and thick ice.

With plenty of supplies on board, 22 crew members will remain on the ship until the ice around it breaks up.
