Midwest Weather Grounds Spartans In LA

LOS ANGELES (WLNS) – The one thing many Spartan fans hoped to escape as they left the Midwest and headed out to sunny southern California is the same thing keeping some of them from getting back home: the weather.

Snowy conditions forced airlines to cancel flights on Thursday, forcing dozens, possibly many more people traveling back to Michigan and other places in the Midwest to spend unplanned time in Los Angeles.

"I'm very frustrated. It's hard to leave this place, but I want to get back home, and [my brother] has got to get back to work," said Jake Miller, student at Michigan State University. "I've got to get ready for school."

Other students traveling from Los Angeles International Airport are also worried about getting back in enough time to prepare for classes, which start on Monday. "It would be nice to be home for a few days to unwind for school, but that's probably not going to happen," said Jackelyn Adams, MSU student.

But some Spartan travelers are still high on MSU's Rose Bowl victory, and weren't fazed by the change in plans. "The win was so big and so good. We've waited how many years for this? If we get a glitch, we get a glitch," said Patti Sholler, 1972 MSU graduate. "Nothing tarnishes the win."
