Governor Snyder To Give State Of The State Address

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Later this month Governor Rick Snyder will face a large crowd and deliver his fourth State of the State address.

A lot has happened over the past year.

Snyder has used pass State of the State speeches to discuss budget priorities for education and road work.

But this year he hopes to roll out new policy initiatives that will address mental health, seniors and energy, according to our media partners at MLive.

Governor Snyder says the mental health issue is a big one for the state and hopes to look into treatment initiatives for patients who would otherwise end up in corrections facilities.

He's also concerned for seniors receiving low-income.

Just last month the governor signed a bill that would eliminate sales tax on certain medications.

And the governor has a vision to see a more flexible range of renewable energy for the state, wanting to reduce Michigan's reliance on coal and increase the use of renewable energy and natural gas.

State of the state will take place on January 16 as Governor Snyder prepares for re-election in November.
