Restrictions On School Lunch Portions Lifted

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Students eating lunch at school will get more of it, thanks to a national rule change.

Schools are now allowed to serve larger portions of lean meat and whole grains in school lunches and other meals.

Guidelines on portion control were originally intended to help fight childhood obesity, but many parents complained their kids weren't getting enough to eat.

These limits were eliminated temporarily more than a year ago.

Officials say they want to give school nutritionist more flexibility in meal planning.
