Automakers Report Mostly Positive 2013

Posted: Updated:

United States automakers are looking back on a mostly positive 2013.

General Motors posted some downward sales in December, with a sales slowdown of more than 6 percent. But thanks to the strength of sales from the Chevy Silverado pick-up truck and Chevy Malibu, GM still finished the year on a high note with a sales gain of 7.3 percent for last year.

Chrysler posted better numbers for December, up 6 percent and for 2013 it's sales were up by 9 percent. Those were it's best totals in 6 years.

The biggest leap for 2013 came from Ford. It's sales jumped 11 percent thanks to huge sales numbers on F-Series pick-up trucks. Ford says truck sales accounted for one third of all it's U.S. sales. The 2.5 million vehicles it sold was a 6-year high.
