Snow Storm Shuts Down Colleges, Government Offices

Posted: Updated:

Lansing, Mich (WLNS)-- It's not just schools. Ingham and Eaton Counties have closed their offices for Monday, January 6th after a huge snow storm swept through mid-Michigan.

The Lansing City Council won't be meeting on Monday, either. The group was scheduled to pick a new president to lead them through the next year. Meridian Township, Lansing Township, Delta Township, and Delhi Township offices will be closed, as well.

The government offices are among the latest institutions to close because of the storm, which is expected to dump 8 to 12 inches of snow across the area. Some places may see even more.

Among the other major institutions closing: Michigan State University and community colleges in Jackson and Lansing. LCC, like MSU, says only essential staff should show up for work on Monday.

LCC also says orientation for international students will be changed from January 6th to January 8th.

More than 100 other schools and school districts have also cancelled classes on Monday. You can find a list of those schools and districts here:

Other closings include MSUFCU and the Capital Area Michigan Works! offices in Charlotte and St. Johns.

If you've got plans to go anywhere or do any business on Monday, it's probably best to call ahead and see if the business will be open.

Offices in Jackson County will also be closed-- and all non-essential personnel do not need to report for work.
