MDOT Urges Drivers To Be Safe

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Slippery roads are causing several accidents on interstatesin mid-Michigan, including one roll-over.

It happened around 9a.m. Thursday on US-127, just north of Kalamazoo.

In response, the Department of Transportation is working to prevent accidents like this. They say plows are out to improve road conditions, but salt doesn't work in the low temperatures that have been around.

"One thing we are doing as well is supplementing our salt usage with sand as a way to provide a little bit of traction out there on the roadways. But again in these low temperatures that's just one thing we can do. The best thing is to just have motorists slow down," said Kari Arend, with MDOT.

They want to also remind drivers to slow down while driving.

The accident is still under investigation.
