Okemos needed a win against the Sexton Big Reds to keep pace in the Blue tonight. And had to do it in enemy territory at the home of the Big Reds.
The Chiefs were down late in the fourth. James Moore drove the lane, spun, shot, and got denied by Austin Jackson. But he got the ball right back and got the short jumper to fall. Okemos managed to be down by one with just 19 seconds left.
With the pressure on, Sexton got the inbound pass in deep to Austin Jackson, who got a clear path to the bucket, But he was fouled hard, and Jackson split his pair. And the Big Reds missed six free throws in the final 30 seconds.
It gave Okemos one last shot with five seconds left. Edward Smith got the ball, dribbled, and heaved the desperation three-pointer for the win. But it was no good.
The Big Reds hung on for the upset victory over Okemos, 59-57. Coach Ron Banks hoped his team used the win to turn around the season.
