Charge Dropped Vs. Trooper-Death Suspect's Wife

Posted: Updated:

MANISTEE, Mich. (AP) - A charge in Manistee County against the wife of a man accused of fatally shooting a Michigan state trooper during a traffic stop has been dropped.

Sarah Knysz was facing a charge of unlawful driving away of a vehicle following the Sept. 9 death of Trooper Paul Butterfield II. WOOD-TV reports the charge was officially dropped Monday.

The move was expected, and she faced other charges in neighboring Mason County.

Knysz was sentenced in December in Mason County to two to five years in prison for helping her husband escape. Eric Knysz faces trial starting next month on a first-degree murder charge. Butterfield was killed during a traffic stop Sept. 9 in Mason County's Sherman Township.

Sarah Knysz has agreed to testify against her husband.
