High Speed Chase Ends With Stolen Car In Ditch

A high speed chase involving over 100 mile-per-hour speeds ends up with a stolen car in a ditch.

According to a sergeant with the Ingham County Sheriffs Department, just after three this afternoon, the suspect robbed a car dealership in Jackson County at gunpoint. He says the suspect stole a red Mitsubishi and then raced away on NB 127.

Deputies caught up with the vehicle as it got off the highway on Holt Road, but say the man refused to pull over. That's when it turned into a high speed chase, but it didn't  last long.

Officials say the suspect quickly lost control and crashed into a ditch.

"Our officer spotted him north bound 127 and stayed with him the entire time," said Sgt. Tim O'Neill from the Ingham County Sheriffs Department. "Backed off when we got into the hilly area, where it started getting a little dangerous. Our officer backed off a bit but kept him within visual eyesight and that's when the subject lost control of the vehicle."

Officials say that the suspect confessed that he had just got out of jail a few months ago.

No one was hurt in the chase. Tonight officials have not told us which dealership the car was stolen from.
