Gen. Michael McDaniel Had Ultimate Decision Over BWL Review Team

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A 10 member team has been selected to review the Lansing Board of Water and Light's response to the ice storm in 2013.

The people on the board bring some form of expertise, including Doug Jester.

"Several people informed me that they had recommended me," said Jester, the former East Lansing mayor. City council members says he got interested after the current mayor of EL vouched for him.

Close to 85 people submitted resumes and letters of interest through email, spanning a wide variety of backgrounds.

"We've tried to make sure we had some business owners, some outreach experts," said TJ Bucholz. He's a part of a team to help oversee scheduling and monitoring the review team's progress.

Bucholz says some members emailed General Michael McDaniel directly with past relationships. Others were recommended by city officials, including the mayors of Lansing and East Lansing. But when it came down to decision time, Bucholz says one thing is certain.

"Final decision though was not influenced by any sort of elected official. The decision was made by General McDaniel," Bucholz said. "Nobody is immune to potential criticism, not Peter Lark, not the mayor."

The committee review team is working on scheduling three public forums in East Lansing, Lansing and Delta Township in coming weeks.
