LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A former University of Michigan and NFL player is facing felony charges for not paying child support.

Officials say Bobby Deangelo "BJ" Askew Jr., 33, of Tampa, Florida owes more than $267,000 in child-support.

A court order was filed in 2005 for Askew to pay child support for his three children in Michigan and payments were to set begin May 2006 for around $2,200. The court ordered payment increased to $5,127 per month when Askew extended his contract with Tampa Bay.

Schuette's office says he then allegedly made sporadic payments and submitted several arrears payments ranging from $13,00 to $35,000 after failing to pay on time and for the court ordered amount. In 2010, it is alleged that Askew underpaid $107.87 in lieu of a $5,127 monthly payment. he allegedly stopped child support payments altogether in November 2012 and has not paid since then.

He was arrested on January 7 in Florida and is being extradited to Michigan.

Askew was a star fullback at U of M and the first fullback drafted in 2003. He played pro for seven years for the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
