National Traffic Safety Admin. Proposes New Car Seat Regulations

Posted: Updated:

Under new regulations proposed Wednesday, child car seats will have to protect children in side-impact crashes for the first time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration believes the new standards will prevent deaths of nearly 5 children and injuries to more than 60 each year.

Research shows many child deaths and injuries are caused by side-impact crashes.

The changes won't be final until the safety agency reviews public comments, which can typically take months.
