Sneakers Raise Money For American Cancer Society

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - As rivalry day approaches for Michigan and Michigan State, some local businesses are tying up their sneakers to make a 'slam dunk of donations' for a good cause.

Auto-Owners Insurance along with 30 other businesses hosted 'Suits and Sneakers Day' on Thursday. Employees who wore sneakers donated $5 to the American Cancer Society.

This is part of the Coaches for Cancer campaign started by Tom Izzo and his wife, Lupe.

She says the campaign is being adopted beyond Lansing. "It's something we started years ago and it has gone national," said Lupe Izzo, First Lady of MSU Basketball.

"Everybody has been touched in some way by cancer. And so its not very difficult to get our associates to rally behind us on this one," said Jeff Harrold CEO, Auto-Owners Insurance.

The participating business that raises the most money will win a party at the Breslin Center.
