Harlem Globetrotters Spin Into East Lansing

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Before the Big MSU Game at the Breslin Center Saturday, another team is taking over the courts--The Harlem Globetrotters.

They've been in the Greater Lansing Area all week, but not just for basketball.

"The globetrotters have been around for 88 years and one of the major reasons we have been around that long is because of the things we do in the community, hospitals and schools," says 'Flight Time' Lang of the Harlem Globetrotters.

The team has partnered with the Department of Education to promote a positive message for students and adults alike with an anti-bullying campaign called The ABC's of Bullying.

"A few years ago we went to this ant-bullying convention and we realized how big bullying had become in the school system. So we came up with the ABC's of anti-bullying And each letter stands for something that we try and encourage the kids and give them an idea of what they could do if they're confronted with a bullying situation."

The message is simple and could save a life. The Acronym stands for Action, Bravery and Compassion.

Tonight the team will head to the Breslin Center for their 2014 Fans Rule Tour and honor the eighth graders of the

Olivet youth team from the Mid-Michigan Pony Football League. The team demonstrated compassion for one of their players by setting up a touchdown for a teammate with a disability. They will be presented with Junior Phenom certificates just before tip-off.
