Weather Systems Will Bring Arctic Air, Snow Over Weekend

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Cold weather is expected to stick around mid-Michigan for the distant future.

Forecast models show extremely low temperatures and wind chills through at least the next 10 days.

Along with chilly temperatures, snow is expected to hit the area intermittently throughout the weekend. The first system is due Friday evening and will likely bring around 1-3 inches through Saturday morning. The second system moves in Sunday and will bring another 1-3 inches.

Both systems will bring winds reaching around 20-40 mph, which will also blow the snow around, causing white out conditions. Arctic air will likely linger through the weekend.

The Board of Water and Light issued a reminder to customers the strong winds have potential to knock out power and down lines. If this happens, the utility asks you to report downed lines by calling 877-295-5001 or emailing custservice@lbwl.com.

Warming shelters have also opened in resposne to the cold. You can see a full list of them HERE.
