(CBS) - The 56th Annual Grammy Awards unfolded Sunday night and it proved to be an eventful night of show-stopping performances and high honors to music legends and young stars.

"This is the one thing that I didn't expect most, so thank you so much," said Lorde, Grammy Winner.

Organizers promised this year's Grammy's would be full of surprises. And they certainly delivered.

Beyonce and Jay Z rocked the opening with their duet. Jay Z had a message for his baby girl after nabbing Grammy's for Best Music Video and Best Rap Collaboration for his work with Justin Timberlake.

"I want to tell Blue that 'Look! Daddy got a gold sippy cup for you," said Jay Z, Grammy winner.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited on stage just before the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles' first US performance. McCartney solidified his iconic status, winning two Grammy's, including Best Rock Song.
