HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A jury has begun deliberating in the case of a man charged with firing a gun at vehicles along the Interstate 96 corridor in Michigan.

Raulie Casteel is charged with terrorism and assault with intent to murder in the apparently random shootings over a three-day period in October 2012.

In his closing argument Tuesday, assistant attorney general Gregory Townsend displayed photos of those whose vehicles were targeted, telling jurors that Casteel "was very, very successful at terrorizing the community."

Defense lawyer Doug Mullkoff countered by arguing that prosecutors overcharged the case and that his client was "a deeply troubled man" who "didn't have some premeditated plan to go out and hurt people."

Casteel is contesting the terrorism and assault charges, but not the weapons counts he faces.
