Propane Prices Continue To Rise

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The cold weather is making a shortage of propane even worse.

Many people use the gas to heat their homes, but the price per gallon of propane is skyrocketing causing a huge problem for homeowners who depend on it during dangerously cold temperatures.

Officials say the shortage stems from an early start to a very cold winter, as well as wet crops in the fall that required large amounts of propane to dry before going into storage.

"We had an unusually wet season in the fall. We've had to use a lot more propane right in the fall," said Joe Ross, a spokesman for the Michigan Propane Gas Association.

Experts say Michigan has the highest rate of home propane usage in the country.
