One Man In Critical Condition After Overnight Shooting

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS ) - Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man in critical condition at McLaren Hospital.

The man walked into McLaren Hospital around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police are looking into where the man was shot, but say it may have been at a home in the 4200 block of Pleasant Grove in Lansing. Officers were called there around 12:15 a.m. for reports of a breaking and entering with shots fired. Upon arrival police found multiple bullet holes in the home.

Police arrested two people for obstructing an investigation and say the shooting could be related to a shooting last week involving medical marijuana.

"We did discover that the homeowner is a legal medical marijuana provider," Officer Robert Merritt said.

A family bulldog was killed on Tuesday, January 21 following a robbery in Lansing involving pot.

"What I can say is that there are similarities in it," Merritt said. He says both involved knocks at the door, homeowners who were legal providers and both ended in gun fire. But Merritt says these are isolated incidents are not a growing trend.

"We've discovered that in 2013, we had two incidents like this just two and the year before we had two also."

At this point, the department's not ruling out that the Stillwell and Pleasant Grove shooting could be related.

"It is a problem," said Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth. Over the last year, Sheriff Wriggelsworth says they've seen their fair share of narcotics cases, but says there's probably more out there.

"Many of these medical marijuana operations also sell other drugs and so when they get robbed, they don't want to report that to the police," Sheriff Wriggelsworth said.

They are still searching for suspects involved in the robbery along Stillwell avenue.
