Volunteers Work To Count Homeless In Lansing

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Teams of volunteers gathered at Volunteers of America Wednesday night to take part in the Annual Census of the Homeless.

The volunteers braved the frigid temperatures to head out in search for homeless people. Because of the cold, those still on the streets were welcoemd to go back to Volunteers of America where a warming center is located.

Survival kits were also given out to any homeless people who decided not to come back to the VOA.

The count included those who are sheltered and those seeking refuge outdoors under bridges or in makeshift camps.

The count is expected to last until early Thursday morning.
