MSU Trustees Extend Dantonio's Contract, Celebrate FRIB

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - After an unforgettable Rose Bowl win, Spartan Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio is the toast of the town.

On Friday, the board of trustees at MSU extended his contract to keep him in East Lansing through January of 2019.

The trustee's also addressed the full funding of the FRIB project. The university received the green light to continue with the project in the recently passed federal budget.

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon says this is just another step in helping the university to become a world class research facility.

"50-years-ago, we're going to be celebrating the first light of the original cyclotron, so this is something we've been good at for a very long time. We've just been able to move to the next stage of international competition to be among the best, so it's one of those sort of Rose Bowl equivalent, if not national championship equivalent, events," said Simon.

Groundbreaking for the FRIB project is set to begin on March 17.
