Grand Ledge Teacher Convicted Of CSC

Posted: Updated:

EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) – A 35-year-old Grand Ledge teacher accused of having sex with two male students was found guilty Thursday on five of eight counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct.

Jason Algra's case was re-tried this month after a judge declared a mistrial last April. "We discovered some evidence--documents that were actually on a compact disc or CD that we feared we had not turned over to the defense," former Eaton County Prosecutor Jeff Sauter said last year. "The court granted a mistrial because it is our obligation to provide that type of evidence to the defense in advance of the trial."

Algra was found guilty of five counts of third degree CSC, but was not convicted on three CSC charges in the first degree. He faces up to 15 years behind bars.

Sentencing takes place March 21.
