Posted: Updated:

LaPORTE, Ind. (WLNS) - Indiana State police confirmed escaped prisoner Michael Elliot has been caught in LaPorte County, Indiana.

Police there say they responded to a stolen vehicle call, which ended with a short pursuit. They were able to arrest Elliot without any other injuries.

He's currently being held in LaPorte City Jail. The Michigan Department of Corrections has started the extradition process to bring him back to Michigan.

Elliot escaped from Ionia Correctional Facility Sunday night dressed as a cook. He was able to peel back a fence and get out. He then carjacked a woman at knifepoint, until she was able to get free at a gas station.

The Jeep he stole was later found at an apartment complex in Shipshewana, Indiana.

He's convicted of four counts of first degree murder, armed robbery, arson, entering without breaking and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, sending him to prison for life without parole.
