Fishing Platform, Park To Be Shut For Utility Work

Posted: Updated:

BUCHANAN, Mich. (AP) - Utility officials say a fishing platform and park along the St. Joseph River in southwestern Michigan will be closed temporarily for construction.

Indiana Michigan Power says the closure starting Saturday is needed while electrical equipment is delivered and installed. It affects an area usually accessible via Riverside Drive on the north side of the river downstream from the utility's Buchanan Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant.

This property is owned by Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Indiana Michigan Power and is leased to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Construction is expected to end by July 31. The upper dam fishing dock site, which is accessed off of Mead Road, will remain open for public use.
