Pres. Obama Expected In East Lansing To Sign Farm Bill

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The White House says that President Barack Obama is expected in East Lansing to sign the Farm Bill.

The president is coming on Friday around 1p.m. at the Mary Anne McPhail Euquine Performance Center on Michigan State's campus.

He will sign the newly adopted farm bill and give a speech on its impact on the economy in Michigan and the nation. He's also expected to meet with some local farmers on the immigration bill.

Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow chairs the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee and led the fight for congressional passage of the farm bill.

The sweeping $100-billion-a-year measure won Senate approval Tuesday on a 68-32 vote after House passage last week. The bulk of its cost is for the food stamp program, which aids 1 in 7 Americans.

The speech is not open to the public and no tickets will be sold for entrance.

6 News will have full coverage with Tim Skubick on Friday. We will also have a live stream on our website of the event.
