Posted: Updated:

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A 20-year-old man charged in the shooting of a Ferris State University student at his off-campus apartment returns to court Feb. 11.

DeCory D. Downing was arraigned Monday in district court in Big Rapids on 17 charges that include attempted murder and having a firearm in a felony.

The university says Downing is from Macomb County in suburban Detroit, isn't a Ferris student and has a long criminal record. Authorities also have charged 18-year-old Shaionna Brown with being an accessory to the Saturday morning attack, plus weapons charges.

Downing and Brown are in the Mecosta County jail, which had no information Tuesday night on whether they have lawyers.

Police arrested them late Saturday at an on-campus apartment. The victim was treated at a Grand Rapids hospital and released.
