Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - President Barack Obama is expected in East Lansing Friday on Michigan State University's campus.

He'll be there to sign the newly adopted farm bill. After month's in the Senate, the $956 billion bill passed Tuesday.

Governor Rick Snyder will not be at the president's speech and will not meet up with him at a later time while he's in mid-Michigan. A representative of his said there were "conflicting schedules for events" that day.

Senator Debbie Stabenow is the agriculture committee chair says this bill has been one of the biggest challenges she's had while representing Michigan. The bill will cut roughly one percent of food stamp benefits, which will result in a budget cut of around $800 million.

President Obama's speech and visit is not open to the public, however, 6 News will stream it on air and online Friday.
