Horses Taken From Home With Prior Animal Cruelty Charges

Posted: Updated:

COHOCTAH TWP., Mich. (WLNS) - Nine horses that are suspected of being neglected were removed from a Cohoctah Township farm Thursday and a new animal cruelty case is pending against their owner.

Our media partners at WHMI say Velva Jean Wainscott, 71, was charged with animal abandonment and cruelty after a dead horse was found on her property last month.

This isn't the first time animal control has gone to the farm. Wainscott's horses were taken from her in 2012, but they were given back after animal cruelty charges were dismissed.

Wainscott is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
