EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - MSU's President Simon gave the State of the University speech Tuesday afternoon.

The address was part of the bigger awards convocation, held at the Pasant Theater at the Wharton Center on MSU's campus.

President Simon addressed issues including tuition, the football team's Rose Bowl win and how MSU is striving to provide students and faculty with a place to achieve their own goals in life and their career.

"So what's your Rose Bowl? What's the kind of thing that in your career you'd really love to be able to do? That would be the thing you would want celebrated, even though there won't be a million people watching you, what would it be? And we want to do that for everyone, because that's what Michigan State University is about," said President Simon.

She also honored 10 faculty members with the William J. Beal Outstanding Faculty awards, presented to members who have made contributions to research in their field and education.

Outside of the speech, students also protested tuition increases, chanting they will always be united.
